In all Faculty of Education programs, students learn to integrate technology effectively into their academic studies and their professional practice. In addition to its emphasis on technology, the Faculty of Education's philosophy is based upon the key concepts of reflection, praxis, and constructivism. Students are encouraged to use journals, portfolios and other personally meaningful records of experience and reflection to enhance their learning process. They are encouraged to consider practical applications of the theories that they encounter in the courses, and they experience learning not as information recall but as the development of new understandings that they construct independently or in collaboration with their peers. The combination of academic knowledge, technology skills, research areas and teaching techniques that characterize the UOIT Faculty of Education also make it uniquely qualified to offer graduate preparation for the next generation of technology-using educators.
In the MEd program, students take a selection of required core and elective courses to complete a total of 30 credits of work. For the Graduate Diploma in Education and Digital Technologies, students complete four courses in education and digital technologies for a total of 12 credits. While some of the program activities may be available in a hybrid (combination of online and face-to face) fashion, students enrolled in all graduate programs in Education will take the majority of their courses online. This includes a strong component of video conferencing meetings where students get an opportunity to speak directly with their professors and colleagues in full video and sound, and with multimedia capabilities, on a weekly basis. All of this from the comfort of their own home, anywhere int he world.
The field of Education and Digital Technologies within the MEd and the Graduate Diploma in Education and Digital Technologies builds on the institutional strengths at UOIT in information and communication technologies. Those students who are interested in a more general MEd can take courses in a variety of key areas.
The MEd and the Graduate Diploma in Education and Digital Technologies at UOIT are innovative programs that build on the institutional strengths at UOIT in information and communication technologies. Therefore, all students take courses that have digital technology components.
