Ron is the Practicum Coordinator and joined the Faculty of Education at UOIT in June 2006. Ron has taught at all grade levels and held leadership positions as Director of Provincial Schools Branch, Ministry of Education; Superintendent of Schools, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board; and Elementary and Secondary School Principal.
Ron started his career with the former North York Board of Education. He also taught First Nations students in an isolated community in Northern Ontario and spent four years with Department of National Defense Schools Overseas in Lahr, Germany.
Ron holds qualifications in Special Education and in Early Childhood Education. He has taught and administered many programs for special needs students. As the Director of Provincial Schools he was responsible for programs and services for deaf, blind and learning disabled students at 5 provincial sites as well as providing consultative services to the 72 Ontario school boards. Ron was also the principal of a Secondary School responsible for academic programs of young offenders ages 16 to 18.
Ron assisted with the management and implementation of the School Support Program - Autism Spectrum Disorder, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Children & Youth Services and the Ministry of Education.
Ron has taught Additional Qualifications courses in Special Education as well as the Supervisory Officer Qualifications Program for Ontario Principals' Council and the Eastern Ontario Staff Development Network. Ron has provided leadership and professional development in many programs for teachers, parents, supervisory officers, trustees, school councils and principals. Ron is also a certified Tribes Trainer.
In his leisure time, Ron enjoys time at the cottage with his wife Joan and their three children. Ron's interests also include fitness, hiking, cooking and travel.
