Lewis Williams is the Outdoor Education Instructor and a Faculty Advisor in the Faculty of Education, UOIT.
Lewis has worked as a teacher and school administrator in both elementary and secondary schools.
In addition, he has worked at the Board Office for eight years as the Race Relations Officer and an Administrative Officer. He retired in 2004 from the Durham District School Board.
Lewis owns a outdoor adventure training company, Wood Smoke and Paddle Song, and delivers programs for both youth and adults in outdoor skills, leadership and first aid. He is a certified instructor in canoe tripping, backpacking, outdoor skills and first aid.
The community organizations with which he works include Scouts Canada, the Duke of Edinburgh Award program, the Ontario Recreational Canoe and Kayak Association, Hike
Ontario, the Red Cross, the YMCA, The Durham District School Board and The Refuge's "Wilderness Rocs" camping program for homeless youth.
Lewis is committed to youth justice and serves on The Durham Youth Justice Committee (in conjunction with the Office of the Attorney General of Ontario) and the Justice for Youth Forum Committee of Durham.
Lewis is the recipient of the YMCA Peace Medallion Award, the Scouts Canada Medal for Good Service, the Volunteer of Distinction Award from Sinclair SS and the Volunteer Service Award for the
Province of
Ontario.
