Research Interests
From an interest in the role that technology can play in the learning process, his research led him to develop an epistemological model of Human-Computer-Human Interaction (HCHI), describing the whole as a system of interdependent entities. More recently, in an effort to refute this model, he has applied it to the development of a collaborative online learning environment prototype designed to study HCHI from a design research perspective.
Current projects
COLE: In designing the Collaborative Online Learning Environment (COLE), the intention is to move online education from a content centered - teacher driven design to a process centered - learner driven approach. A social constructivist position is adopted to foster collaborative knowledge construction and meanings negotiation amongst the learners thus creating a "collective intelligence" (Levy, 1997).
PBLO: The concept of Problem Based Learning Objects (a digital multimedia capsule presenting a situation that is at least partially undesirable and from which a problem can be derived) has been developed and the effect these can have on higher level thinking is being studied.
